A clash took place between the opposition supporters and their opponents at the entrance to the Intercontinental Hotel on Mykhailivska Square.

The police intervened in the situation only after ten minutes, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent said. Then the fighting was stopped.

A scuffle started when a group of athletic young people, who came from a direction of European Square, started taunting opposition supporters.

The head office of Kyiv police told Interfax-Ukraine that a fight did take place, but police were still establishing who participated in it.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainska Pravda online publication reported that fighting started between members of the Svoboda party and supporters of the Party of Regions on Velyka Zhytomyrska Street.

"An armored personnel carrier was standing on the street and Svoboda members demanded it be removed. The police did not react until athletic guys came from a rally of the Party of Regions and started the fight. During the fight the sides used water bottles and tear gas. The police did not intervene in the fight for a long time, and just stood and watched. Then, their colleague ran to the policemen swearing and demanding that they stop the confrontation," the Ukrainska Pravda online newspaper reported.
