The Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine has refused to send a complaint by Serhiy Vlasenko against the annulment of his parliamentary mandate to the Supreme Court of Ukraine, the press service of the Batkivschyna Party reported on Friday.

"Although the grounds for sending this case to the Supreme Court are evident, this decision was to be expected, since the Higher Administrative Court constantly demonstrates its subservience to [Ukrainian President Viktor] Yanukovych and his whims. This will be one more argument in my in my complaint to the European Court of Human Rights. There is no justice for opposition politicians in Ukraine, not in criminal cases of [former Prime Minister Yulia] Tymoshenko, [former Interior Minister] Yuriy Lutsenko and others, nor in civil and administrative cases," Vlasenko said.

Batkivschyna said it hopes that the European Court of Human Rights will give an objective evaluation of the judicial system and the state of democracy in Ukraine.

Vlasenko won seat in the Ukrainian parliament on the list of the Batkivschyna United Opposition in the October 2012 elections. He is a defense counsel for Tymoshenko in a number of criminal cases. He has repeatedly stressed that he is a defense counsel rather than a lawyer of the former prime minister.

On March 6, 2013, the Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine (HACU) stripped Vlasenko of his parliamentary powers complying with a lawsuit filed by Verkhovna Rada speaker Volodymyr Rybak. The speaker said in the lawsuit that Vlasenko was combining his parliamentary powers with legal practice.

On March 12, Vlasenko submitted an application to the Supreme Court of Ukraine asking it to reverse the ruling of the Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine (HACU) to deprive him of his parliamentary powers.
