The State Service for Emergency Situations does not expect any bad flooding this year.

"The spring floods will be mainly below the norm and within the annual norm," Head of the State Service for Emergency Situations Mykhailo Bolotskykh said at a briefing in the presidential administration on Tuesday.

At the same time, he noted that most complications are expected in Volyn and Rivne regions, where maximum water levels could lead to the partial flooding of some villages.

He said that a similar situation might occur in the areas adjacent to the Dnipro River in Chernihiv region.

In addition, the situation in Ternopil and Khmelnytsky regions may worsen as a result of the uncontrolled discharge of water from ponds and small reservoirs.

Bolotskykh also noted that the regime of Carpathian rivers would be determined by specific weather conditions.

"As for the Carpathian region, in the period from March 8 to March 11 the first wave of floods in Carpathian rivers has already passed, and it passed without negative consequences," he said.

He said that the situation was currently under control.

He also said that a meeting of the Ukrainian operations center to prevent the effects of spring flooding would be held in Volyn region late this March.
