PGO unaware of MPs' intention to meet with Pshonka

Opposition parliamentarians never informed the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (PGO) of their intention to meet with Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka on Monday, the press service of the PGO has said.

"No representatives of the opposition parties, including the leader of the Batkivschyna [parliamentary] faction, Arseniy Yatseniuk, asked for a meeting with the prosecutor general," reads the PGO's statement.

The PGO also informed that the prosecutor general appointed his first deputy, Renat Kuzmin, as acting prosecutor general from February 1.

"If representatives of the opposition factions arrive at the PGO at 1400 today, Kuzmin, if he is available, will meet with the parliamentarians," the press service said.

Earlier, a posting appeared on the Web site of the Batkivschyna Party, reading that several MPs lead by Yatseniuk would come to the Prosecutor General's Office at 1400 on Monday to meet with Pshonka.

The politicians intended to raise the issue of persecutions of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. The MPs also planned to hold a press briefing following the meeting.
