Former State Guard Department Major Mykola Melnychenko has said that the cancellation by the Prosecutor General's Office of the indictment in a criminal case against him on the divulging of state secrets and the resumption of the pre-trial investigation are due to the interests and intervention of certain individuals.

"I believe that somebody interested in this set his hand to this, as the indictment that was drafted is not an accusation, but babble and nonsense that would have quickly collapsed in court," he told Interfax- Ukraine, while commenting on respective information.

He confirmed that the Security Service of Ukraine had passed a respective resolution to him.

"We'll see what they will search for further," Melnychenko said.

As reported, the Prosecutor General's Office has canceled the indictment in a criminal case opened against Melnychenko regarding the divulging of state secrets and resumed the pre-trial investigation.

The prosecutor's office did not specify for what reason the pre-trial investigation in the case was reopened.

The main investigatory department of the SBU on December 26, 2012 finished the pre-trial investigation into the criminal case against Melnychenko on the disclosure of state secrets and sent the indictment to the PGO. The SBU also said that the ex-major and his defense lawyer had read the materials of the pre-trial investigation.
