European integration remains Ukraine's foreign policy priority, says NSDC secretary

The Verkhovna Rada of the seventh convocation will have a constitutional majority of lawmakers supporting Ukraine's rapprochement with the EU, and therefore the European integration remains a priority for the country's foreign policy, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Andriy Kliuyev has said.

According to him, given the consensus on this matter, the Ukrainian government counts on early signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, including the creation of a free trade area, which will give a powerful impetus to the development of bilateral relations, the press service of the NSDC reported.

"The results of the parliamentary elections confirmed the unchanged line of European integration. Ukrainian government's position on this issue is solid: our country is an integral part of the European civilization," Kliuyev said.

At the same time, he noted that it was important for Ukraine that the national interests of our country should be fully taken into account. The NSDC secretary said that Ukraine counted on the support of its position in the dialogue with the European Union by a number of states, in the first place Poland.

"The Ukrainian-Polish relations are perhaps the most effective example of correction of errors in international relations. Although there were difficult and even tragic moments in the history of our peoples, the current partnership between Kyiv and Warsaw is an example of effective cooperation between European states. Not only do we find understanding on key issues, but also provide stability in Central and Eastern Europe," Kliuyev said.

At the same time, the NSDC secretary said that along with the European integration, Ukraine will continue to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, especially in the economic field, with other states and international organizations, including Russia, the U.S., China, and many other states.
