Azarov: No shortage of opposition leaders in Ukraine

There is no shortage of opposition leaders in Ukraine, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

"This political campaign doesn't lack opposition leaders and opposition activities. I would even say there are more than enough of them. I am for a strong opposition, but we have it in excess," he said at a meeting with international observers and representatives of diplomatic missions in Kyiv on Friday.

Responding to a question about how much the election process is affected by the absence of former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former interior minister Yuriy Lutsenko from the elections, Azarov said: "If there was shortage of opposition leaders, it would have a greater impact, but we have no such shortage in Ukraine."

Azarov said he regretted that Tymoshenko and Lutsenko did not take part in the elections. However, the law doesn't allow their participation, the premier said.
