Lutsenko's defense team appeals to court against actions of Mena Penal Colony

The defense team of former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko has filed a lawsuit at Chernihiv District Administrative Court against the refusal of the administration of Mena Penal Colony to secure convicts' right to hold meetings, as well as against infringements on their confidentiality.

This is stipulated in a posting on the Web site of the People's Self-Defense Party referring to the ex-minister's lawyer, Oleksiy Bahanets. According to the lawyer, the court will hear the case on October 29-30.

Bahanets explained that the defense team appealed to the court against the administration of Mena Penal Colon due to its refusal to allow convicts to hold unlimited number of meetings, as well as its infringements on the confidentiality of its clients.

The lawyer noted that Lutsenko as a convict has the right to hold a meeting with his lawyer. In addition, the ex-minister also has the right to a meeting with his lawyer in a case for which the verdict has not taken legal effect, according to the law on preliminary detention.
