Penitentiary service: Lutsenko examined in Chernihiv regional hospital, does not need inpatient treatment

Ukraine's imprisoned former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, who is serving a sentence in the Mena penal colony in Chernihiv region, was examined outside the colony on Thursday.

"On October 11, prisoner Lutsenko was examined in Chernihiv Regional Clinical Hospital in accordance with the recommendations given by doctors on October 2," the press office of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine reported.

The report says that according to the preliminary conclusion of doctors, according to the results of the examination, Lutsenko has no disease that would envisage his inpatient treatment. The patient is in a satisfactory condition, the service added.

As reported, Kyiv's Pechersky District Court found Lutsenko guilty of a number of counts of abuse of office and sentenced him to four years in prison on February 27, 2012. Lutsenko was charged with the extension of an investigative case concerning Valentyn Davydenko, the driver of former SBU First Deputy Chief Volodymyr Satsiuk, as part of an investigation into the poisoning of then presidential candidate Viktor Yuschenko on August 17, 2012 by Pechersky Court. The court sentenced Lutsenko to two years in prison.

On August 31, 2012, Lutsenko was taken to the Mena penal colony in Chernihiv region.
