Ukraine discusses procurement of Italian air defense systems using frozen Russian assets

Brigadier General Anatoliy Klochko, Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Defense, and a delegation from Italy's Ministry of Defense Defense Industry Agency held talks on the potential use of revenues from frozen Russian assets to purchase air defense systems.

"The parties discussed the possibility of using revenues from frozen Russian assets, particularly for the procurement of Italian-made air defense systems and their munitions," Ukraine's Ministry of Defense press service reported.

Klochko emphasized Ukraine's interest in acquiring various calibers of ammunition and air defense systems. "However, it is essential to understand the costs and delivery timelines for these systems to the Ukrainian Defense Forces," he said.

The Ukrainian delegation, including representatives from the Ministry of Strategic Industries and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, also reviewed products from Italian defense companies. Marcello Mele, a representative of Italy's Defense Industry Agency, outlined the agency's key areas of work and mechanisms for potential cooperation.

"Italy expressed its readiness not only to remain a significant partner in supporting Ukraine but also to ensure the proper allocation of EU budget funds, fully utilizing Ukraine's industrial potential," the press release stated.

Both sides agreed to continue efforts toward establishing joint industrial projects. Klochko also thanked the Italian delegation for their unwavering support since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion.
