Almost all servicemen voluntarily returned from unauthorised absence assigned to military units – AFU service
Up to 90% of servicemen who voluntarily expressed a desire to continue their service after returning from unauthorised absence (AWOL) have been transferred from reserve battalions to military units and are serving, the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told Interfax-Ukraine.
"Of the total number of servicemen who were assigned to reserve battalions after voluntarily returning to service from unauthorised absence, up to 90% have already been sent to military units," Head of the Communications Department of the AFU Military Law Enforcement Service Main Directorate Serhiy Kuzmenko said.
He recalled that after returning from unauthorised absence, servicemen are sent to reserve battalions, after which they have the opportunity to choose a military unit. According to Kuzmenko, representatives of military units work in reserve battalions and offer servicemen such a choice.
"The process of returning to service is quite active," Kuzmenko said.
He also drew attention to the fact that payments and support for servicemen who have returned from the Special Operations Department are resumed after the order of the reserve battalion commander to enroll them in the unit's lists.
"Since the Verkhovna Rada extended the law until March 1, 2025, which allows servicemen who have committed the Special Operations Department to resume military service, we believe that this process will actively continue," the head of the communications department said.
