Ukraine hopes that it is currently making positive progress on the issue of consultations with NATO to strengthen Poland's skies with the possible subsequent transfer of Polish MiGs-29 to Ukraine, said spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Heorhiy Tykhyi.

"These consultations are continuing and this is, in fact, an issue in which, again, we have a common view with the Polish side. Indeed, we call for an enhanced NATO presence in the Polish sky and in general on the eastern flank of NATO, which would stimulate the release of resources that can be transferred to Ukraine," he said at a briefing at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday, answering a question from an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent about advancing consultations with NATO.

He also noted that this issue is now on the agenda, but it is too iearly to talk about specifics. "We want to hope that we have a positive dynamics in it," Tykhyi said.

Earlier it was reported that on November 26, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, during talks with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, raised the issue of transferring Polish MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine.

"The Minister noted that the Ukrainian side understands the importance of Poland's protection of its own airspace. Therefore, Ukraine is negotiating with NATO allies aimed at supporting the protection of the Polish sky and the eastern borders of the Alliance," the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said then.
