NATO PA calls for increased support of Ukraine through long-range missiles, air defense systems, fighter jets

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly has called for increased support for Ukraine, in particular, through long-range missiles, air defense systems and fighter jets, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration has reported.

"The NATO Parliamentary Assembly, at its 70th annual session in Montreal, Canada, on November 25, 2024, approved the resolution ‘Future-proofing the Alliance and supporting Ukraine until victory,’ with a powerful call for further support of Ukraine and a strategic approach to countering the threat to the West," the Office said.

In particular, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly called on the allied countries to support and increase military, financial and humanitarian support to Ukraine, ensuring the timely supply of ammunition and modern weapons systems, in particular air defense systems, high-precision long-range weapons and multi-purpose fighters.

"The parliamentarians also stressed the need to fulfill the promise of long-term security assistance to Ukraine and using the full potential of NATO within the framework of the NATO Assistance and Training Program for Ukraine in the Field of Security (NSATU), the Ukraine–NATO Council, the Comprehensive Assistance Package, the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Centre (JATEC), the NATO Mission to Ukraine and other support tools," the message says.

It is emphasized that the resolution calls for continuing to provide this support to Ukraine as long as it resists Russian aggression or the threat of such aggression in the future.

According to the report, the Parliamentary Assembly also called for intensifying the political and practical efforts of the Alliance to help Ukraine receive an invitation as soon as possible and become the 33rd member of NATO.

In addition, in the resolution, parliamentarians, in particular, call for demonstrating an unwavering commitment to NATO's collective defense by ensuring full implementation of the decisions taken at the Washington summit and previous summits, in particular, on investing in air defense.

Among other things, the resolution calls for supporting Ukraine's efforts, expressed in the Ukrainian Peace Formula and the Victory Plan, aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, and remaining faithful to the principle of "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine."

The resolution also calls for strengthening the sanctions regime against Russia and the DPRK in order to increase the price for their cooperation in aggression against Ukraine, as well as to provide Ukraine with all means, including medium-range missiles, for self-defense and deterrence of further aggression.
