Rutte: NATO-Ukraine Council wasn't focused on invitation of Ukraine to NATO
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said that the issue of inviting Ukraine to the Alliance was not the main one at the NATO-Ukraine Council.
"We all know that Ukraine will become a member of NATO, so the question is exactly when [it will become a NATO member], and when the invitation will take place. But that was not the main issue of the debate last night," he told a Friday press conference following a meeting of NATO Defense Ministers in Brussels.
As reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented his Victory Plan in Brussels on Thursday. The first item of the plan is an invitation of Ukraine to join NATO. Zelenskyy also participated in a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council.
The main focus of the discussion was to get massive military aid into Ukraine, Rutte said.
"We have seen the announcement yesterday, Australia, the U.S., so very recently, but Germany a couple of days before, and many other allies still providing massive aid into Ukraine. And that will continue. As I said yesterday, Vladimir Putin would be wrongly advised thinking that we will give up on this. No, we will continue doing this as long as it's necessary. And that was the main focus of the debate last night," he said.
