Yermak, O'Brien discuss agreements in defense sphere between Ukraine, USA

Head of the President's Office of Ukraine Andriy Yermak held a meeting with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien, the President's Office reported.

"The Head of the President's Office thanked U.S. President Joe Biden and his team, both houses and parties of Congress for helping Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression, in particular in strengthening its defense capabilities," the website said on Wednesday.

It is also reported that Andriy Yermak and James O'Brien discussed the current situation on the battlefield and the status of defense agreements between Ukraine and the United States.

In addition, the head of the President's Office noted the importance of increasing sanctions pressure on the aggressor state, Russia.

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink said O'Brien met with Ukrainian civil society representatives, at which the United States reaffirmed its support for Ukraine's independent anti-corruption institutions.

"Excellent discussion between Assistant Secretary James O’Brien and members of Ukraine’s vibrant civil society, reiterating U.S. support for Ukraine’s independent anti-corruption institutions, needed to further Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration," Brink wrote on X on Wednesday.

The photo published by the U.S. ambassador shows, among others, Vitaliy Shabunin, a Ukrainian public figure, head of the department and co-founder of the Anticorruption Action Centre.

The day before, it was reported that the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State was visiting Ukraine.
