Average cost of summer vacations of Ukrainians abroad up by 25% - Join UP!

The average depth of booking a tour in the summer season of 2024 increased from 10 to 40 days, the average bill became 25% more expensive than before the war, said Kateryna Artiukh, Head of Product Marketing at Join UP!, in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency.

"The number of people who allow vacation abroad has increased. However, this is still a long way from restoring (pre-war) volumes, if we compare 2023 with 2021, the figures are several times lower. However, last year the number of tourists increased by almost 50% compared to 2022. And we are seeing the same dynamics in 2024," she said.

The expert noted that compared to European tourists, Ukrainians have a significantly lower booking depth, now it is up to 40 days.

"Hot tours are still booked, only with an adjustment for logistical issues, that is, not from today to tomorrow, but from today for two or three days. They also book for plus two or three months. The average depth is approximately 30-40 days. Compared to last year, this is a positive trend, because last year the depth was much less, up to 10 days," Artiukh said.

More than half of Ukrainians' requests today are with departure from Chisinau. About 14% of tourists choose bus tours from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Montenegro and Turkey. Approximately the same number (about 14% of clients) choose air tours from Rzeszow, about 8% - other airports in Poland (in Krakow, Warsaw, Katowice, Gdansk, Poznan), 3% - airports in Romania (Suceava, Iasi, Bucharest, Cluj).

"We also offer a transfer to the airport - at the request of tourists, we will bring them directly to the terminal. We calculate the situation at the border and make a departure in advance so that our tourists always get to their plane on time," added Artiukh.

Compared to the pre-war level the price of the tour has increased, primarily due to complicated logistics and fluctuations in prices for aviation fuel.

"In 2022, it increased by 20%, now by about 21-25% of the check that was before the full-scale invasion. But it is the component of the bus transfer to the departure airport that makes the tour more expensive not so much, by about 5-7%," the expert added.
