SCM Investment Group increases capital investments, investment in modernization in Ukraine by 52% in 2023

The largest private Ukrainian investment group SCM of businessman Rinat Akhmetov allocated more than UAH 32 billion (or $800 million) for capital investments and modernization in Ukraine in 2023, which is almost 52% more than in 2022.

According to a press release, the investments were made in many areas.

Thus, to ensure the energy independence of Ukraine in 2023, DTEK Group commissioned 26 new coal faces, updated more than 6,000 km of overhead lines and 2,000 energy facilities, including the overhaul of thermal power plant units and their elements after enemy shelling. Investments continued in the second phase of one of the most powerful wind farms in Eastern Europe, Tylihulska wind farm. Geological exploration, construction and drilling work was carried out at gas fields.

Metinvest's capital investments were focused on restoring and developing the safety of key metallurgical enterprises and supporting production technology. Repairs of furnaces at Zaporizhstal and Kamet Steel, restoration of equipment at the Kryvy Rih mining and processing plants, and also, no less important, supporting the production infrastructure of Pokrovskvuhillia, commissioning new mine longwalls. Thanks to this, the enterprise, located in Donetsk region near the front line, was able, despite the war, to provide Ukrainian metallurgical plants with coal concentrate.

In general, based on the results of 12 months of 2023, Ukrainian, associated and joint ventures of SCM Investment Group paid UAH 66.4 billion in taxes and fees to budgets of all levels (or $1.8 billion).

Some UAH 11.4 billion ($300 million) were spent on social programs. The largest costs were programs for residents of the regions where we operate, measures to improve occupational safety and environmental protection.

In addition, SCM businesses, the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation and the Shakhtar football club continue to support Ukraine and Ukrainians in these difficult times. In two years of the full-scale war, UAH 7.6 billion have already been allocated to help military and civilians. Additionally, the businessman allocated UAH 1 billion for the Heart of Azovstal project to help the defenders of Mariupol and their families.
