Business concerned about growing number of 'look alike' products on market for alcoholic beverages

1 min read

The European Business Association (EBA) has said the growing number of so-called "look alike" products resembling famous alcohol brands has become more frequent and shows unfair competition.

"The practice of blatantly copying foreign labels is becoming more widespread. The number of cases has almost doubled since last year. Businesses are more concerned about protecting their trademark rights, design and packaging, the EBA said.

EBA specialists say counterfeit labeling may differ from the original by one or more letters and reproduce only the image of the original product where a similar font, color gamut or drink label title are used.

EBA says Ukraine's Antimonopoly Committee has acknowledged breaches of copyrights and unauthorized use of brand names and labels similar to the products of known companies. .
