Heads of Nord Stream 2 consortium members meet in Switzerland

The heads of the companies that are members of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline consortium met in Zurich on Thursday.

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller held working meetings with E.ON management board member and Uniper CEO Klaus Schafer, Hans-Ulrich Engel, a member of the BASF management board, OMV chief executive Rainer Seele, Engie vice president Pierre Chareyre, and Shell management board member Maarten Wetselaar, the Russian gas giant said in a press release.

"The participants in the meetings discussed issues related to the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project," Gazprom said.

In September 2015, Gazprom, BASF, E.On, Engie, OMV and Shell signed a shareholder agreement to create the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline system with an annual capacity of 55 billion cubic meters. The pipeline will be laid from Russia to Germany across the bottom of the Baltic Sea.

Upon closure of a deal for the foreign shareholders to buy shares in Nord Stream 2 AG, Gazprom will own 50% and BASF, Engie, OMV, Shell and E.On subsidiary Uniper will own 10% each.

German antimonopoly regulator Bundeskartellamt has approved purchase by the foreign partners in Nord Stream 2 AG. Polish regulator UOKiK may take until the end of May to reach a decision.
