Ukraine working to open Chinese market for Ukrainian meat – ministry

Ukraine is working on the possibility of opening the Chinese market for Ukrainian meat and sausage producers, the press service of the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine has reported, citing Deputy Minister Vladyslava Rutytska speaking at a roundtable on the development of Ukrainian-Chinese relations in the cattle breeding area with the participation of Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine Zhang Xiyun, largest Ukrainian producers and representatives of the Chinese Commerce Association.

"We have a 'green flag' from China for supply of food – confectionary products, sugar and other food. This year China opened the dairy market for us. We hope that the sunflower cake and berry markets will be opened very soon. We're working with corresponding agencies in China on the opening of the meat market," Rutytska said.

She said that in 2015, China was number one importer of Ukrainian agrarian and food products. In January-October 2015, Ukraine exported products worth $1.1 billion to China, which is 2.3 times up year-over-year.

"The Chinese government supports Ukraine's development in all sectors. Support of agriculture and growth of goods turnover between China and your country is very important for us. Now we should focus on fulfilling the existing agreements and develop new directions," Xiyun said.
