The surplus of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods in August 2015 demonstrated a positive trend for the sixth month in a row and amounted to $46.7 million against $180 million in July, and $384.5 million in June 2015, the State Statistics Service has reported.

The surplus of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods in August 2015 from August 2014 fell by 84.9%.

Goods exports declined by 27.6% in August 2015 year-over-year, to $3.09 billion, while imports fell by 23.1%, to $3.04 billion. Exports fell by 2.3% in August 2015 compared to July 2015, while imports grew by 2%.

In the first eight months of 2015, goods exports and imports declined by 33.9% year-over-year, to $24.77 billion and $24.15 billion respectively, while the surplus fell by 33.4%, to $62 million.

The State Statistics Service revised data on gas supplies from Russia in February-June 2015, which resulted in indicators changing and the surplus of foreign trade with goods being reduced. Earlier, a surplus of $116 million was registered for February 2015, while in the new report the deficit is $197.3 million. For March, the surplus was worsened from $265 million to $162 million, April – from $219.2 million to $144.1 million, May – from $295.9 million to $80.2 million and June – from $384.5 million to $252.7 million.

The service said that imports of gas in January-August 2015 fell by 19.1%, to $3.379 billion, while in January-July the service assessed imports of gas at $2.278 billion, the declining pace was 43.5%, while since June 2015 Ukraine suspended gas imports from Russia and resumed imports on October 12.

The balance of foreign trade in goods was cut by $838.9 million. The State Statistics Service did not disclose why Russian gas imports were not included in the statistics.

The service said that the share of Russia in the structure of exports fell from 19.7% in January-August 2014 to 12.7% in January-August 2015, and imports fell from 26.6% to 20.2% respectively.

At the same time, the share of exports to China increased from 4.7% to 7.5%, Turkey from 6.4% to 7.6%, Egypt from 4.9% to 5.6%, Italy from 4.7% to 5%, India from 3.4% to 3.9%, Germany from 2.9% to 3.4%, and Poland from 5% to 5.1%.

The share of Norway in the structure of imports grew from 0.5% to 2.6%, Hungary from 2.2% to 4.6% and Germany from 8.9% to 10.8%. Shipments from China rose from 9.5% to 9.7%, Poland from 5.4% to 6.1%, the United States from 3.7% to 3.9%, however Belarusian exports dropped from 7.4% to 6.4%.

Foreign trade operations were carried out with partners from 212 countries.
