Economy ministry proposes including strategic companies in newly created holding company

The Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine has proposed that a holding company should be created which would include all strategic enterprises, Minister Aivaras Abromavicius wrote on his Twitter page.

"The Abromavicius and Demchyshyns [Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn] should not manage state companies. Strategic companies – into holding, and the rest – to privatize. Transparently," he wrote.

The minister said that the ministry has drawn up a draft cabinet resolution and sent it to the central executive power agencies for consideration.

As reported, on March 4, 2015, the Ukrainian Cabinet approved a new list of state-owned companies of strategic importance for the national economy and security after slashing their number from 395 to 309.

The new list includes, in particular, Naftogaz Ukrainy, Ukrtransgaz, Ukrgazvydobuvannia, Energoatom, Ukrnafta, Pivdenne Design Bureau, Pivdenmash rocket builder, Odesa port-side chemical plant, Sumykhimprom, and Ukrkhimtransammiak.

The list also includes trade seaports, industrial bakeries, national and regional state-owned television and radio companies.

The list of Ukraine's strategic economic and security assets also includes companies based in Crimea and in the militants-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
