Ukraine will apply for OECD membership after making successful reforms – Poroshenko

After successfully carrying of reforms a stronger Ukraine will be able to apply for membership of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said while speaking in France on Wednesday.

Delivering a speech at an OECD Council meeting, Poroshenko thanked the OECD member states for their support of Ukraine and for their decision to strengthen cooperation while the country is fighting against aggression, the presidential press service said.

"I appreciate OECD support of our reform plan and stress Ukraine's devotion to international cooperation and intentions to introduce the best world standards for people's lives," he said.

Poroshenko then signed the plan for the implementation of the memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and the OECD, describing it as a "road map" for reforms.

Poroshenko said that Ukraine was extremely interested in obtaining expertise in specific areas of reform, including the management of state enterprises, fighting corruption, developing small and middle businesses, tax and finance control, and education.

Also, Poroshenko met with OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria.
