Some 80% of MPs in Ukraine get revenues from shadow schemes, says official

The overwhelming majority of lawmakers of the Verkhovna Rada receives revenues from the shadow schemes, and the Financial Investigation Service will be created to fight the phenomenon, First Deputy Head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine Volodymyr Khomenko said at a briefing on Thursday.

"It would be clearer to ask who do not use [the schemes]? Around 80% are using, trying to use and try to use them with the help of parties and legal entities. If we calculate the lawmakers' applications or other influence, this is a rather large figure," he said.

Khomenko expressed confidence that the parliament will pas the law on the creation of the Financial Investigation Service. Next week the draft document will be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers and then it will be passed to the parliament.

"I'm sure that the parliament will pass the law, but we should take into account that no everyone will support it," he said.

The government will propose vote by roll-call as the draft law is very important.

"Today no one who use the shadow schemes, both goods and financial schemes - I don't want to name persons, the time will come and we'll name them – would saw the branch one is sitting on. We propose vote by roll-call in the parliament for these laws," Khomenko said.
