New container terminal in Odesa port will accept first ship in April-May – Infrastructure Minister

The new container terminal at Odesa maritime merchant port, which is under construction in the Quarantine Mole, will accept its first ship in April-May 2014, Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Kozak has said at a briefing in Kyiv.

As reported, in May 2013 Kozak forecast that the terminal would accept the first ship in the autumn of 2013.

"Now we are building the first phase of the terminal in the Quarantine Mole jointly with a German company with the 50:50 financing. Investment in 2013 will be about UAH 2 billion," he said.

It was planned to use these funds for the construction of two berths with a total length of 650 meters, the creation of 112,400 square meters of warehouses, 405 jobs and increasing container traffic in the port.

The project of the construction of a container terminal in the Quarantine Mole at Odesa port, which began in April 2010, is being implemented by HPC-Ukraine, which operates the terminal with a capacity of 700,000 TEU, and the construction of the Quarantine Mole terminal is a project to expand the existing one.

A 100% stake in HPC-Ukraine is owned by Hamburg Port Consulting, which, in turn, is a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Aktiengesellschaft (HHLA, Germany).
