Ukraine experiencing serious difficulties due to loss of trade with CIS countries - Azarov

Ukraine lost approximately 25% of its trade with the CIS countries this year and these are considerable economic losses for the country, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

"If in 2012 we had a considerable trade turnover gain, in 2013 we lost about a quarter in the cooperation with the CIS market," Azarov said at a news conference joint with his Russian and Belarusian counterparts Dmitry Medvedev and Mikhail Myasnikovich in St. Petersburg on Wednesday.

"Of course, these are major economic losses for us, and Ukraine experiences very serious difficulties due to this," Azarov said.

Due to this, the issue of building the relations in 2014 - in implementing the free trade area agreement within the CIS in order to regain the lost trade - was discussed at the meeting of the Council of CIS Prime Ministers on Wednesday, Azarov said. Ukraine supports eliminating barriers in mutual trade, the Ukrainian prime minister said.

He also thanked the Russian premier for good organization of work of the meeting of the Council of CIS Prime Ministers in St. Petersburg.

"I cannot but thank Dmitry Anatolyevich for the excellent organization of our forum in this wonderful city and in this great place," he said.
