Ukraine's Agriculture Ministry increases grain export forecast for 2013/2014 MY by 2 m tonnes
The Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry has updated its grain export forecast for the 2013/2014 marketing year (MY) to 28 million tonnes, which is 2.1 million tonnes more than its previous forecast.
According to the ministry, Ukraine will export 8.9 million tonnes of wheat, 2.5 million tonnes of barley, and over 16 million tonnes of maize in the 2013/2014 marketing year (MY).
In July, the country exported 1.2 million tonnes of grain to the world markets. As of today, another 1.4 million tonnes are waiting at ports, the ministry said.
According to the updated forecast, the Agricultural Policy Ministry expects this year's grain harvest in Ukraine to total 57.1 million tonnes, with the domestic need being 28.4 million tonnes.
Earlier, the Agricultural Policy Ministry projected grain exports in the 2013/2014 marketing year at 25.87 million tonnes, and the grain harvest at 56.7 million tonnes, which is the record high registered in 2011.
