Tender on privatization of Donbasenergo to be held without DTEK

1 min read

DTEK, Ukraine's largest private power company, which in recent years has bought two of the four state thermal power generating companies, is not intending to participate in tenders for the purchase of the third and fourth companies, namely Donbasenergo and Centrenergo.

"Buying Dniproenergo and Zakhidenergo, we were aware of how much money we should spend on them and what we should do to fulfill our obligations. But the acquisition of additional facilities in the same condition is impractical," DTEK Director General Maksym Tymchenko said in an interview with InvestGazeta.

He named the balanced coal extraction and burning in the holding, as well as a lack of reasons for changing this balance the second reason for refusal to participate in the tender.

"Thirdly, DTEK's current share is about 30% of generation [of electricity in Ukraine]. Not to be accused of violating limits on antitrust regulations, we can increase it by another 5%, but we would like to do this at the expense of wind energy and hydropower," added Tymchenko.

He said that DTEK analyzed various options of investment in hydro power plants, but decided that small objects of up to 20 MW are very expensive.
