The parliamentary committee for tax and customs policies has not supported a draft law foreseeing the cancelation of the export duty on sunflower seeds in Ukraine.

An Interfax-Ukraine correspondent has reported that the profile committee recommended that parliament reject the bill on amendments to the law on the import (export) duty on some types of oilseeds (No. 2692 of April 2, 2103) regarding the cancelation of the export duty on sunflower seeds.

The decision is explained by the fact that the cancelation of the duty could result in the active export of sunflower seeds, and the production of sunflower seeds in the country will fall.

At present, the export duty on sunflower seeds in Ukraine is 10% of its customs value.

As reported, referring to the Ukroliyaprom Association, in 2011/12 agricultural year Ukraine produced 3.8 million tonnes of sunflower oil, which is28.8% up year-over-year. Its exports came to 3.26 million tonnes compared to 2.65 million tonnes in the 2010/11 season.

Ukraine is a large producer and exporter of sunflower oil.
