Ukrposhta could increase tariffs on international parcels and mail and periodicals delivery in 2013

The state-run enterprise Ukrposhta in 2013 could increase tariffs on international parcels and mail and periodicals delivery, Ukrposhta Director General Oksana Plotnikova has said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

She said that the increase in the tariffs for international parcels and mail is linked to the fact that the tariffs are pegged to the tariffs of postal administrations in other countries.

"We held talks with the NCCR (National Commission for Communications Regulation) on the issue, and the tariff could slightly grow," she said.

The possible increase in the tariff for periodicals delivery is linked to the fact that the provision of the service is loss-making for the company.

"The current tariff for periodicals delivery is formed on the basis of expenses registered five years ago, and over the period the prices of petrol and minimum wages have grown," she said.

Plotnikova added that if the tariffs for periodicals delivery grow, they would be increased only by the level of inflation.

The tariffs for the rest of services will remain unchanged in 2013.

Ukrposhta is the national postal operator of Ukraine according to a cabinet resolution of January 10, 2002.

State enterprise Ukrposhta is subordinated to the Infrastructure Ministry. It provides around 50 types of services in 14,000 departments across Ukraine.
