Pivdenna Railways (Kharkiv), taking into account the low income of most residents in Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava regions, has abandoned the agreed decision to raise commuter tariffs.

According to the press service of the railways, at present the level of existing commuter tariffs does not correspond to the costs incurred by the railways in the field of commuter traffic. The costs of the railways in this type of transportation are 9% covered by income.

"According to the law of Ukraine on railway transport, if commuter tariffs do not provide profitability of this type of transportation, the losses of railways should be compensated for from local budgets. Unfortunately, this issue remains unsolved," the railways said.

As reported, Pivdenna Railways planned from February 1 to introduce new tariffs for commuter traffic. According to the plan, the cost of a full ticket in electric and diesel trains from February 1, 2013 will rise by 15%.
