Ukraine, as a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has the right to take protective measures for its domestic market, Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov has said.

"Ukraine is acting in strict accordance with the WTO statute. We have the right during a certain period and in the conditions of certain risks to take protective measures for our market. And now we are undergoing all the procedures foreseen by the organization statute, which are related to this review," he said at a press conference in Oslo on Friday, asked by Interfax-Ukraine whether Ukraine is intending to heed the WTO's call to withdraw the country's application for the revision of tariff commitments.

As reported, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov on November 22 said that Ukraine is in talks with the World Trade Organization on the revision of conditions of accession to the WTO.

"We are in talks now and trying to find compromise solutions. And I think we will achieve this," he said at a meeting with the representatives of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine.

Ukraine has initiated the revision of a large number of positions on accession to the WTO.

The member states of the World Trade Organization on November 26 called on Ukraine to withdraw its application for the review of tariff commitments.

Ukraine joined the WTO on May 16, 2008, becoming the 152th full member of the WTO.
