Shevchenko becomes new head coach of Ukrainian national football team

Famous footballer Andriy Shevchenko, who served as an assistant head coach of the national team of Ukraine at the Euro 2016 European Football Championship, has become the new head coach of the national team.

His candidacy was supported unanimously at a meeting of the executive committee of the Football Federation of Ukraine on Friday, the federation's press service reported.

During his career as a footballer, Shevchenko played for Dynamo Kyiv, A.C. Milan, Chelsea F.C. and the national team of Ukraine. He won the Ballon d'Or, the European Footballer of the Year award, in 2004. Shevchenko was appointed assistant head coach of the national team of Ukraine in February 2016.

On June 23, Mykhailo Fomenko said that he was resigning from his post of the head coach of the Ukrainian national football team after its poor performance at Euro 2016 in France.
