Ukraine launches information portal for IDP Councils with interactive map
Continuing to support the development and strengthening of the capacities of IDP Councils in Ukraine, UNHCR and its partner NGO, the Stabilization Support Services Charitable Foundation, have launched an online resource with useful materials for IDP Councils.
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) together with its partner NGO, the Stabilization Support Services Charitable Foundation, have launched a new online platform to support the work of IDP Councils across Ukraine.
The IDP Councils Portal provides users with access to educational and methodological resources, legislative updates and thematic news, as well as an interactive map with key information about each council. The platform also allows councils to share their news and events, strengthening their visibility and impact at the local level.
Developed in partnership with the NGO Congress of IDP Councils, the portal aims to help IDP Councils fulfill their mission: to represent the interests of internally displaced persons, influence decisions that affect them, and act as agents of change in their communities.
"The need for such a portal has been discussed at meetings with IDP Councils for several years. We are grateful to UNHCR in Ukraine for its support in its creation. We hope that both members of the Councils and those who cooperate with them will be happy to use this portal, find there both a knowledge base and useful contacts, and we look forward to their feedback and activity," said Olga Ivanova, Director of Development and Advocacy Projects at the Stabilization Support Services Foundation.
"IDP Councils are an important mechanism through which internally displaced persons promote durable solutions to displacement. To do this, they need modern tools, such as the IDP Councils portal. This portal will facilitate their daily work, provide visibility to their activities and allow for the exchange of knowledge, experience and best practices. This will help IDP Councils to continue to initiate changes that improve their lives in their new communities and in society at large," said Nina Schrepfer, Deputy Representative (Protection) of UNHCR in Ukraine. Key features of the portal include an interactive map of IDP Councils with separate pages containing information on their establishment, location, contacts, activities and news. It also offers a library of useful materials, such as manuals, training videos and analytical reports, to support the councils in their daily work. Users will find legislative updates and topical news related to IDPs, announcements of upcoming events at the local and national levels, as well as success stories and examples of how IDP Councils have influenced decision-making processes in communities.
The portal will be useful not only for members of IDP Councils, but also for local authorities, civil society organizations and partners working to support and protect the rights of internally displaced persons.
This initiative is part of UNHCR’s broader efforts to build the capacity of IDP Councils as platforms for advocacy and participation. Recent initiatives include an educational video course Nina Schrepfer, Deputy Representative (Protection) of UNHCR Nina Schrepfer, Deputy Representative (Protection) of UNHCR "IDP Councils: From Adaptation to Impact," launched jointly with the CCC on the "Action.Education" platform, as well as two all-Ukrainian IDP Council Forums held in 2023–2024. The next forum is planned for November 2025.
