Ministry of Digital Transformation, SpaceX working on possibility of disabling Starlink for Russians – Fedorov

The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine found a solution regarding the use of Starlink satellite communication systems by Russian occupiers at the front and offered it to SpaceX, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov said.

"We found an algorithm, proposed it to SpaceX, and now we are communicating on how to make sure that such cases do not happen. SpaceX has already done something similar with the Israeli government," Fedorov said in an interview with the Suspilne publication.

According to him, the problem of using Starlink by the invaders at the front was discussed in Ukraine "before it gained resonance."

According to him, it is necessary not only to turn off Starlink in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, but to make sure that only terminals owned by Russians do not work.

"We need them to work there (at the front in the Armed Forces of Ukraine), because certain technologies related to UAVs are used. There is another way to make our Starlinks work, but the rest do not. We are working with SpaceX over this," the minister noted.

Fedorov also added that he does not believe that Elon Musk is involved in the fact that Russians use Starlink in temporarily occupied territories, and believes that they reach them through "third countries."

"It was logical that they would start purchasing and importing them through third countries. They had Starlink terminals, they were already importing them, right now it became public, there were a little more of them. That is, one of their entrepreneurs probably started to monetize it," the Minister of Digital Transformation said.

Earlier it was reported that Russia is purchasing communications equipment, including Starlink satellite Internet terminals, for use in war, in Arab countries, the Main Intelligence Agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported.
