Court rules to place Dubinsky under round-the-clock house arrest

Pechersky District Court of Kyiv has chosen a preventive measure in the form of round-the-clock house arrest for independent Ukrainian parliamentarian Oleksandr Dubinsky in the case of an illegal border crossing scheme for men.

"To apply a preventive measure against Dubinsky in the form of round-the-clock house arrest," judge Oleksiy Sokolov said at a hearing on Friday.

By court order, Dubinsky will be under arrest until January 2, 2024. According to procedural duties, he was forbidden to leave the locality where he lives without the permission of the investigator, prosecutor or court, to arrive at the request of the prosecutor and the court, to inform the prosecutor or the court about the change of his place of residence and work, to refrain from communicating with other suspects in the case and witnesses, to hand in a passport with the appropriate authority, as well as wearing an electronic means of control.

At the same time, the court granted the prosecutor's motion partially - without a ban on using social networks.

In turn, Dubinsky said that he considers this case to be trumped-up and that certain Baziuk, who says that he is the brother of his ex-wife, and whom, according to investigators, he illegally tried to send abroad, is allegedly a provocateur from law enforcement agencies. "This Baziuk committed fraudulent actions against the public organization Mediaoborona, as he stated to its head that he was a volunteer and he needed to go abroad in order to pick up humanitarian cargo. But it was all a provocation," the deputy said.

As reported, on Friday evening, November 3, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported suspicion to Dubinsky in the case of the transfer of men of military age abroad. According to the investigation materials, the deputy managed to illegally smuggle his common-law wife's brother to a neighboring European country, for which he used a controlled public organization to bring the right people into the Shliakh system through it as allegedly volunteers.
