Some 33,000 residents of Mariupol, Donetsk region were forcibly deported to the Russian Federation and temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk region, Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova reports, citing data from the mayor of the city.

"At the same time, the media of the aggressor country, referring to sources in the military departments of the Russian Federation, report on more than 700,000 people taken by the occupiers to Russia, of which more than 131,000 are children. Some 134,000 people were taken out of Mariupol during the war," Denisova wrote on Facebook on Monday.

According to her, in the occupied parts of the city, with the assistance of local collaborators, the harsh cleansing of civilians, in particular, employees of state institutions and law enforcement agencies, continues.

"Witnesses report that Rashist guards and Kadyrovtsy (Kadyrov's followers) carry out illegal arrests, detainees are tortured and executed for any manifestation of a pro-Ukrainian position. Some of the townspeople end up in filtration camps, now there are about 10,000 people there. The procedures are slow, because the enemy is interested in covering their positions with manpower – peaceful Mariupol residents," the Ombudswoman wrote.

At the same time, according to her, the shelling of the remnants of residential quarters does not stop, fires do not cease in the city.

"The actions of the Rashist army in Mariupol are an act of genocide of the Ukrainian people... I appeal to the independent international Commission of Inquiry during the Russian military invasion of Ukraine and to the expert mission established by the OSCE participating states in accordance with the Moscow Mechanism to take into account these facts of genocide and war crimes of the Russian Federation in Ukraine," Denisova wrote.
