The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case against journalist Aleksandr Nevzorov, accusing him of disseminating "fake" information about the actions of the Russian armed forces.

The reason, in particular, was that on his public page in the Instagram network banned in the Russian Federation and on March 19, 2022 on his YouTube channel, he published information about the deliberate shelling by the Russian Armed Forces of a maternity hospital in the city of Mariupol. The publications were accompanied by photographs of civilians affected by the shelling.

The new Russian law on "public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation" provides for up to 15 years in prison.
