Zelensky insists on payments to families of medical workers killed by COVID-19

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the need to initiate a dialogue with family members of medical workers who died from coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in order to pay them compensation.

"This issue is very acute. I know that there are many more deaths, and everything needs to be checked. At the same time, bureaucracy need to be simplified. Maybe people just do not know how to submit these packages, or maybe it is too complicated. People who have lost a family member must receive payments. You do not just have to sit and wait for documents. Initiate a dialogue with such families yourself," Zelensky said at a conference call on countering the spread and overcoming the consequences of COVID-19 disease.

It is noted that the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine has received 41 packages of documents for insurance payments, some 33 of which were funded.

During the meeting, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said the situation with the spread of COVID-19 has stabilized for the third week in a row. "We are on a so-called plateau. There is a slight decrease in the number of detected cases by almost 25,000 compared to the previous week," Shmyhal said.

Chief of the National Police of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko, in turn, said that UAH 766,000 of fines for violating the mask regime in public places had already been paid.

The officials also said that preparations were underway for the start of vaccination in the spring.
