Poroshenko: Ukrainians spoil Russia's scenario for first round of election, same to be during runoff

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that in the first round of the presidential election Ukrainians have spoiled Russia's scenario and would do the same during the runoff.

"We, the Ukrainians, have broken down Russia's scenario for the first round, because they definitely wanted to see another person, but not Poroshenko, in the runoff. You won't make it, friends and foes from Russia. Ukrainians will also spoil your scenario in the second round," Poroshenko said in a statement to journalists on Sunday evening.

According to him, the first round was a one-way track. "Kremlin, the oligarchs crossed all the red lines. You saw what happened in the last two weeks," he said.

Poroshenko thanked the Ukrainian voters for the fact that they were able to "separate the wheat from the chaff."

The president is convinced that the election was free, democratic and met all OSCE standards.

He recalled that Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is ready to work with any president, only not with Poroshenko. "You will have to work with Poroshenko," he said.

The president also said that he does not feel euphoric after the first round and intends to learn lessons.

"I do not feel euphoric. I critically and firmly understand the signal that society is giving today to the current government. This is a harsh lesson for me and for our entire team. This is an absolutely serious reason for meticulously working on the mistakes made in recent years. However, those who do nothing ever make mistakes," Poroshenko said.
