Ukraine, Georgia agree to speed up introduction of travel on internal passports

Ukraine and Georgia have agreed to speed up the process of introducing trips between the two countries on internal biometric passports, the press service of Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Oleksandr Sayenko reported on Wednesday.

Such an agreement was reached at a meeting between Sayenko and Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze in Tbilisi on July 17.

The sides also expressed their readiness to intensify cooperation in the development of transport corridors as part of the New Silk Road.

The press service added that Sayenko, on behalf of Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, handed over an invitation to Bakhtadze to make an official visit to Ukraine this autumn.

"This visit could have been timed to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic and consular relations between Ukraine and Georgia," Sayenko said.

In addition, the sides discussed the holding of a meeting of the joint Ukrainian-Georgian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, which may take place already this year.

As reported, the Georgian parliament on July 14 announced a vote of confidence in the updated government headed by Prime Minister Mikhail Bakhtadze. The renewed government, after structural changes, is represented by ten ministries instead of 13 and by the office of the state minister for reconciliation and civic equality.
