The surface-to-air missile that downed the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17) aircraft over eastern Ukraine in 2014 belonged to the 53rd Air Defense Missile Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces stationed near Kursk, members of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing the incident and including specialists from Australia, Belgium, Malaysia, the Netherlands, and Ukraine said on Thursday.

JIT representatives showed a film explaining how they made this conclusion in presenting investigation materials in the Netherlands.

In particular, the investigators claimed to have tracked the entire route a Buk air defense missile system followed while moving from its base near Kursk to eastern Ukraine, from where it fired the missile.

The investigators also presented some technical data that, in their opinion, prove the accurateness of their conclusions.
