UNICEF to urgently supply measles vaccine to Ukraine late Feb

The UNICEF would urgently supply 220,000 doses of measles vaccine to Ukraine at the end of February, the press service of Ukraine's Health Ministry has reported.

This is vaccine from Belgium (GlaxoSmithKline, GSK), which at once after its arrival would be delivered to the regions, the ministry said.

"A new batch of measles vaccine was purchased by UNICEF under an order of the Health Ministry in support of the public immunization program. Thanks to a confirmed international expertise in the field of procurement UNICEF was able to purchase almost 1.098 million additional doses of measles vaccine to respond to Ukraine's measles outbreak," the ministry said.

The delivery of the immunobiological medicine will be carried out in three stages - after the delivery of the first part of 220,000 doses at the end of February, UNICEF will deliver 800,000 more doses at the end of March and the third part of 77,000 doses at the end of May.

In addition, the ministry said that in the second half of 2018 the organization will deliver another 901,400 doses of measles vaccine.

Earlier the supply of 1 million doses of vaccines procured by UNICEF was expected in April.
