Sobolev opposing appointment 'dependent' NABU auditor

Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Prevention and Combating Corruption Yehor Sobolev (Samopomich faction) has said he opposes appointing a "dependent" auditor of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) while he heads the committee.
"Until I get fired, the parliament will not be able to appoint the dependent auditor of the NABU. At least, I will do everything to prevent to do it," Sobolev told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday.
"My position is as follows: the committee twice held open competitions. The first time I recommended a first-rate expert who conducts an audit of the FBR and Interpol for the U.S. Justice Department - Robert Storch. The second time we recommended Carlos Castresana, who, as head of the anti-corruption tribunal, jailed the entire Guatemalan leadership, or Martha Boersch - the American prosecutor who represented the accusation at the trial of Pavlo Lazarenko. I repeatedly told my colleagues in parliament, "We gave you very good candidates. Endorse them! But they did not do so," Sobolev said.
