ATO HQ reports 22 attacks on Ukrainian positions, one killed in action
Illegal armed formations in occupied areas in Donetsk and Luhansk regions attacked the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) zone 22 times in the past day, as a result of which one Ukrainian soldier was killed in action, the press center of the ATO headquarters has said.
"It wasn't quiet in the ATO zone in the past day. As was the case before, active provocations staged by the enemy were recorded in the evening and at night ... Unfortunately, casualties were reported in the past day. One Ukrainian soldier died in a blast near the village of Stanytsia Luhanska at about 19:00 local time. In total, militants violated the ceasefire 22 times during the day," the ATO HQ wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
Fifteen attacks were recorded in the Mariupol sector alone. Militants shelled the villages of Novomykhailivka and Berezove with the use of grenade launchers, while large-caliber machine guns and cannons of infantry fighting vehicles were used to attack the village of Shyrokyne, and machine guns were used to fire on the town of Maryinka and the village of Talakivka.
Ukrainian troops fired back, using mainly large-caliber machine guns.
Militants in the Luhansk sector lobbed 82mm mortar shells into the villages of Malynove and Katerynivka, while heavy machineguns were engaged to fire on the villages of Novotoshkivske and Novozvanivka.
Grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and small arms were used to attack the town of Avdiyivka in the Donetsk sector, the ATO HQ said.
