Taruta wants Rada to tackle issue of dismissing NBU head this week

MP Serhiy Taruta (not a member of any parlaimentary faction) has proposed to including the issue of dismissing Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeriya Gontareva on the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada's session this plenary week.

"I propose that we include draft resolutions that would be registered today to this week agenda. One resolution is a petition to the Ukrainian president to dismiss Gontareva and the second is to create a temporary investigation commission. If she [Gontareva] has nothing to hide, let her work with us," Taruta said at a meeting of the council of heads of parliamentary factions, committees and groups on Monday.

He said that the NBU head did not attend Rada committee meetings and ignored lawmakers.

As reported, on October 13, the NBU appealed to the Security Service of Ukraine, Prosecutor General's Office and National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine asking to open criminal cases based on provocative materials with accusations against Gontareva.

According to a posting on the central bank's website, this concerns spreading a brochure entitled "Threat to Economic Security" before a meeting of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank member countries in Washington held from October 6 through October 10.

The NBU said that Taruta personally circulated the brochure, which is a collection of untrue, provocative and distorted information. The NBU believes that this step is a part of a provocative campaign against Gontareva.

On October 14, Taruta reacted to the NBU's steps. Taruta said claims forwarded against him by the NBU are groundless. He intends to initiate the creation of a temporary parliamentary commission to investigate into activities of Gontareva.
