Tymoshenko, EPP President and Secretary discuss Russian hybrid war, upcoming local elections in Ukraine

Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko, who is attending the congress of the European People's Party (EPP) in Madrid (Spain), has discussed the current situation in Ukraine with Secretary General of the European People's Party (EPP) Antonio Lopez-Isturiz.

The Batkivschyna press service has reported that the politicians concentrated on discussing on the Russian hybrid war against Ukraine.

He said that Ukraine can also count on EPP help and support.

For her part, Tymoshenko thanked Istruiz for his support of Ukraine.

Tymoshenko also met with EPP President Joseph Daul to discuss the upcoming local elections in Ukraine.

Daul underlined that according to the EPP, Batkivschyna is the only political party in Ukraine which has a party structure and offices across the country.

The interlocutors also discussed an initiative of the Robert Shuman Institute to hold training sessions in Ukraine to teach deputies of local councils.

Corruption in Ukraine was also discussed by Tymoshenko and the European politicians.

Daul said it is crucial for Ukraine to start a real fight against corruption as it won't become a prosperous European state without reforms.

In addition, Tymoshenko said it is of great importance that the EPP Congress adopted a resolution on October 21 entitled "Protecting the Union and Promoting Our Values", according to which Russian sanctions won't be cancelled until the Kremlin halts aggression in Ukraine and territorial integrity of Ukraine is restored.
