Poroshenko connects internal conflicts in PGO with start of prosecution agencies reform

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that internal conflicts in the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (PGO) are connected with the start of the reform of the prosecution agencies.

When commenting on the latest events in the PGO in an interview with ICTV channel, Poroshenko said: "I think it's better if such processes are taking place in the PGO that are coming out. As society must finally know what's happening there, rather than when it's silent and calm, and everyone is divulged in corruption."

According to Poroshenko, "some internal processes" took place in the Prosecutor General's Office that are connected to the opposition of action against corrupt officials.

"The Prosecutor General instantly reacted by demanding the criminal case [opened against the PGO, Security Service of Ukraine and Kyiv Court of Appeals employees involved in the investigation into corruption in the prosecution agencies] and closing it," Poroshenko said.

He added that the ongoing situation confirms that the authorities are on the right way and that the reforms are achieving results.

"These days, 3,000 prosecutors were fired. This is the basis for the reform's success. A total of 700 new employees are being hired in the prosecution agencies on a contest basis now," Poroshenko said.
