Ukrainian parliamentarians are planning to set up a Verkhovna Rada Provisional Inquiry Commission (PIC) to investigate the events that occurred in Mukacheve, Zakarpattia region.

"It is obvious that the whole parliament is determined to create a provisional commission that will look at what really happened there. Accordingly, everyone is clear that the level of abuse and the level of corruption in the government in this region is so high that it provoked what happened," Parliamentary Speaker Volodymyr Groysman said at a briefing after a Verkhovna Rada Conciliatory Council session in Kyiv on Monday.

An Interfax correspondent reported that Batkivschyna faction leader Yulia Tymoshenko had said at the meeting earlier: "I propose that the parliament immediately set up a provisional inquiry commission by taking the most experienced people, two from each faction, plus independent deputies who were not integrated in this conflict. The results should be announced to the whole country before Friday and further employment of the country's top security and police officials called into question."

For his part, Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction leader Yuriy Lutsenko said that his faction supports the creation of the PIC to investigate the causes of the crisis in Zakarpattia.

Ihor Yeremeyev, the head of the People's Will parliamentary group (the group includes Mykhailo Lanio, a parliamentarian involved in the conflict) told the Conciliatory Council: "Today we drafted and registered a bill creating a provisional commission for inquiry into the Mukacheve events."

He said that the People's Will group had earlier asked the president, the prosecutor general and the interior minister to immediately neutralize the armed groups and investigate the Mukacheve incident.

Many non-faction parliamentarians also earlier stressed the need to set up a parliamentary provisional inquiry commission.
