OSCE PA recognizes Russia illegally holds Ukrainian citizens, demands their release

MP, Deputy Member of the Ukrainian permanent delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA), Serhiy Vysotsky (People's Front), has said that during its current session, the OSCE PA supported a resolution condemning Russia for its illegal detention of Ukrainian citizens.

"The OSCE PA condemns Russia for violating international law by recognizing its holding of Ukrainian citizens in prisons as illegal. It urges Russia to immediately release them," the MP wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

According to him, the OSCE PA Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions Committee also adopted the resolution.

Vysotsky said that representatives from Belarus and Switzerland voted against the resolution.

"She's [the Swiss representative] is on the extreme left. Yesterday she told us of the treat of transitional capitalism," he said.

In addition, Vysotsky said that Kazakhstan publicly spoke out against the resolution saying that it couldn't be considered without Russia.

"I want to thank all the OSCE PA members that stayed true to their principles," Vysotsky said.

The OSCE PA session started in Helsinki on July 5. It will last until July 9. The Ukrainian delegation prepared two draft resolutions – on condemning Russia for its illegal detention of Ukrainians, and for its aggressive foreign policy.
